June 11, 2006 (excerpted from e-mail)
Dear Howard.
I am the new owner of Petrel (1976 cutter, #36).
The good news is that Petrel is restorable. She is afloat right now and will soon be shipped up to Rome, NY to a marina on the Erie Canal, where restoration will begin.
The deck is largely undamaged except for stanchions, some rigging, the
aluminum toe rail broken loose (not serious), and the pushpit. The worst
damage is the rudder, the mainsail, and amidships: one crack above the
water line, lots of scratches, furniture tabbing and several small details.
Considering the pounding she took, I think it's a testament to the strength
of the boat. She will take some work to restore but is certainly worth it.
I have included a few photos taken in early June, 2006 to add to the site.
You can see that things are not so dire.
Thanks
